New and a little confused!

I've registered and everything, but there are a lot of things it says I don't have permission to do, like use the new posts and active topics functions...do I need a certain number of posts or credits or something like that?

Also, I've just made two posts and I recieved credits for them, but they haven't shown up. Do they just take a while to show up?
